A fascinating journey in Valmorel
During a weekend or a holiday in Valbelluna (Belluno), we suggest you to walk through the nearby Dino Buzzati hiking trail for visiting the enchanting itinerary and the places that the writer used to visited during his life (he was born and lived here). They inspired him in the making of the opera "The Miracles of Valmorel".
Following the hiking trail of Dino Buzzati, therefore, you can walk along the old road that leads from the valley to the Valmorel. You'll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Dolomites and see the roadside shrines and other examples of popular faith in this area.
The Buzzati route: the meeting of nature and literature
The starting point of the hiking trail of Dino Buzzati is the Oratory of St. Nicholas in the village of Bribanet of Bribano. From here, you move to visit the villa where the writer was born, near Belluno, in the town of San Pellegrino. So, you continue to the nearby village of Visome, where you can admire the church of Madonna of Caravaggio (1828-1830) containing many paintings by local artists from the Sixteenth to the Eighteenth Century. Once in Limana, and from there to Giaon, you continue up along a wooded hill to reach the characteristic path of the "Via Crucis", flanked by 14 altars that represent the phases of Christ's ordeal.
On top of the hill stands the small and ancient shrine of Nostra Signora of Pare, and nearby there is St. Peter in Tuba. There, you can enjoy a splendid view over the Valbelluna and find the remains of the defensive walls of the ancient Templar castle of the early Middle Ages. Walking over, you arrive at the shrine of Santa Rita, built in 1973 in memory of the last literary work of Buzzati, "The Miracles of Val Morel." The end point of the Buzzati route is the nearby and panoramic expanse of Valpiana Valmorel (800 m).
